1. love what you do. If you’re a couch-potato kind of student…forget it. We all want adventure, but I think only a few have it in the blood (hmm…that sounds cool…)
2. find a travelmate. Someone you like and trust. Someone who won’t throw your twisers out the window…while using it.
3. try to be low maintenance. You’ll be living without water, food or shelter for some time. Sounds terrifying? Well, it’s not that bad. Think of it as an “urban survival camp”. A tent, a small car (or good hitch-hiking skills) and local supermarkets should provide you with the necessary tools for survival.
4. keep your senses accute and alert for conferences, trainings, workshops, internships, organisations that may offer you funds/grants/scholarships. With your pathetic student budget you won’t be able to get pass borders.
5. get a map, not a GPS. Modern technology will only play with your head, will abandon you when you need it the most, and get you even more lost then you were. Good old paper maps on the other hand will make you feel like a modern real life Indiana Jones.
…to be continued…
